Kayt Southworth, founder of Turn Another Leaf, is a professional tutor who has more than ten years of experience teaching children and adults. She loves to teach and often says it is like breathing to her. She feels television and other forms of media can never replace reading and she hopes to share her passion for reading with others.
Turn Another Leaf offers the following services:
Reading for beginners - those who have never learnt to read, this can include children and adults
Reading for intermediates - those who know how to read but could improve in various aspects such as pronunciation, diction and so on
Reading for proficients - those who command a certain fluency in reading but feel they could improve still more
English tutoring: all aspects of English for children and adults of all ages, both one-on-one and in small classes
English as a second or third language for beginners - those who are just beginning to learn English as a result of having emigrated to SA etc.
English as a second or third language for intermediates - those who have begun to learn English but feel they could still improve
English as a second or third language for proficients - those who know English, but would like to delve deeper into the language
*All of the above services are offered both in the Reading Centre itself and in the clients' homes.
Clients who visit the Centre are more than welcome to take advantage of the library, which hosts many books for children and adults alike. As per normal, books will be loaned out for a period of two weeks at a time and fines will be charged for books that are returned late.
The first lesson is free, thereafter a monthly or weekly fee (as per the client's wishes) will be charged.
Complimentary beverages and juice:
Clients and their families are welcome to help themselves to complimentary tea, coffee and juice before and after the lesson. Parents who wish to stay and wait for their children are welcome to sit at the neighbouring table and enjoy their drinks while waiting, but those who are learning are requested not to drink during the lesson.
Reading and English Centre Fees - Per Session:
- One person: R180 per hour at the Centre itself, R230 at the home of the client
- Two people: R280 per hour at the Centre itself, R330 at the home of the client
- Three people: R380 per hour at the Centre itself, R430 at the home of the client
A discount will be offered to siblings or learners from the same families.
You may pay in cash at the end of each session in the beginning, but once a relationship has been established you are welcome to switch to a monthly EFT payment.
Please note that if you have not paid for the previous session, you will not be allowed to attend another one until the fees are paid in full.

- Fines for lost or damaged books: R150
